One Practice That Changed My Life (And Could Change Yours Too)

Let’s be honest: for a long time, I was doing all the “right” things.

College. Career. Promotions. Climbing the ladder like I was expected to do.

Until one day, I looked up and thought: Wait… is this it?

I was decades deep into corporate life, commuting to a job that drained me, and missing out on time with my kids. I kept telling myself it was temporary. That things would get better. That I’d finally get the promotion or the recognition or the raise.

But spoiler alert: things didn’t get better.

And it wasn’t until a major health scare in 2015 that I started asking bigger questions. Like:

  • Is this the life I want?

  • Why am I waiting for something “bad” to force a change?

  • What if I could design a life on purpose — not just survive the one I fell into?

That one moment didn’t flip the switch right away. But it planted a seed. And slowly, it grew.

I bounced between corporate roles, but each one felt like the same old story: office politics, endless meetings, zero autonomy. Even worse? My future was always at the mercy of mergers, layoffs, or someone else’s decisions.

By the time the pandemic rolled around, the seed I planted back in 2015 finally bloomed. I realized I didn’t want to spend the next 30+ years in survival mode.

So I left.

No backup job. No guarantee. Just a financial cushion, a plan, and a mission to figure it out.

Since then, I’ve pivoted (more than once). I’ve made mistakes (more than once). But I’ve also built a business I believe in. A life I love. And a mission I’m proud of. To help more women entrepreneurs break free from burnout and build businesses that actually support the life they want.

Here’s what I’ve learned:

You don’t have to wait for a crisis to redesign your life.
You don’t need anyone’s permission to choose a different path.
And you definitely don’t need to hustle yourself into the ground to “prove” anything.

The one practice that changed everything for me?

Paying attention to that voice inside me that’s telling me something isn’t right or that there’s a different way.

That’s it. Sounds simple, but most of us don’t do it. We keep up doing what everyone (including ourselves) expects us to do. We ignore that small voice that tells us we are exhausted and keep pushing until something big happens that makes us sit up and pay attention.

So give yourself space to listen to that voice. What is she telling you?

  • Is she saying you’re burned out and are looking for a different path?

  • Is she pointing out that the excitement in your life and job just isn’t there anymore?

  • Maybe she’s trying to show you a different way, a different direction, that leads to a more fulfilling life?

If you’re ready for your own no-more-hustle moment…

My specialty is helping mission-driven mid-life women entrepreneurs design a business and life that feels good to them. A life that they wake up excited about everyday. Doing work they love, helping people they enjoy working with. You can have an online business that pays you well and without the hustle and grind. I can help.

I’ve tried all the things from business tools, marketing methods, different business models, and listening to gurus who said I need to dance online to get clients. And I’ve realized there is a better way for an introverted entrepreneur like me to build a life I love without entertaining ideas of going back to corporate hustle culture.

Let me know where you’re at in your journey. Are you trying to escape corporate or have you already escaped but just aren’t interested in following marketing gurus who say you have to hustle 24/7?

Drop a comment. I’d love to hear from you.
